Children of Bainbridge

The Youth Assembly delegates who perished in the Winecoff fire are remembered in Bainbridge, Georgia. As part of a college assignment, Addie Livingston,17, has written about them. She was asked to present her work to the Rotary Club in Bainbridge and it's been picked up by bainbridgega.com. Livingston deserves an A+ for her poignant and focused remembrance of the tragic event that continues to shape the values of Bainbridge. The article is here.

My great-aunt was Patsy Griffin..and I am glad that something had and is being done to give the rememberance that these children diserve. I do wish there was a little more done by intrvtewing the remaining family members of these children of Baingridge, Ga.
The only mention that is done is by the aricle that Miss Livingston presented to the rotary and gave to her professor and the short fact in your article.
I know my father was 7 years old when this happened and my Grandfather was a representive in Atlanta and had taken his daughter out to dinner the night of the fire.
I am sure there are more stories as to how the families found out and what they did...that would be interesting.

My great aunt was Ruth Powell. I have always known that she died in the Winecoff hotel fire at the age of 16, but was never told anything else about her. My grandmother, her older sister, would not talk about her because it was too painful. Unfortunately my grandmother passed away 5 years ago and so I will never know. I would be interested in speaking with family members from the children of Bainbridge to find out more about my great aunt Ruth Powell. I know this is 11 years after this was posted, but if there is anyone out there that would be willing to talk, I would love to listen. - Ashley McGlamery Webb
